This was a bespoke, fully soundproofed garden music studio build in Kings Heath, Birmingham, delivered in collaboration with Atelier 88 Architects and acoustic specialists The Soundproofing Store.
Designed to professional standards, this project combined high-performance acoustic construction, detailed architectural design, and precision-led installation to create a space suitable for serious music production.
🎯 The Brief: A Professional Home Music Studio
Our client Chris — a tech professional with a degree in music — approached us with a clear vision:
To create a high-spec home recording studio that delivers the performance of a commercial facility, within a residential setting.
This wasn’t a typical garden room.
It was a purpose-built soundproof studio, designed for long-term use and high-level output.
🧠 Acoustic Design & Soundproofing Strategy
The acoustic design was led by Martin Ball of Atelier 88 Architects, whose experience includes work on the MasterChef studios in Birmingham.
The focus of the design was on:
Soundproofing (sound isolation) to prevent sound escaping the structure
Maintaining acoustic integrity internally for recording and production
Reducing structure-borne vibration transfer
We worked closely with both the architect and The Soundproofing Store, ensuring all specified systems and materials were installed in line with design intent.
In projects like this, performance is entirely dependent on correct installation of acoustic systems — even minor inconsistencies can compromise results.

This was a highly detailed build, far beyond standard garden studio construction.
The structure incorporated:
